This course is suitable for:

• Anyone who uses abrasive wheels as part of their job
• Workshop operatives, engineers, fitters, and maintenance staff
• Employers looking to meet their legal obligations under PUWER

• Half-Day Course (typically 3–4 hours)
• Duration may vary depending on class size and delegate experience

The training covers both theoretical and practical aspects of working with abrasive wheels, including:

• Hazards and risks associated with abrasive wheels
• Legal requirements and safety responsibilities
• Identification and marking of wheels (type, size, and speed)
• Safe storage, handling, and transportation
• Inspection procedures and damage detection
• Components of abrasive wheels – flanges, blotters, bushes, nuts
• Correct assembly and balancing of wheels
• Dressing of wheels and correcting uneven wear
• Adjusting tool rests on bench/pedestal grinders
• Safe operation and practical assessment using tools
• Selection and use of appropriate PPE (e.g. eye protection)

• Delegates must have a good understanding of spoken and written English
• No prior experience is required, but some familiarity with tools is beneficial

Photographic ID (e.g. Driving Licence or Passport)

All delegates are required to bring the following PPE to the course:

• Own mask – FMP3 / FFP3
• Impact goggles
• Ear defenders
• Hard hat
• Appropriate workwear

Note: It is recommended that candidates are Face Fit tested prior to attending, especially when using respiratory protective equipment (RPE).

• On successful completion, delegates receive an In-House Certificate of Training
• Certification is valid for 3 years, after which refresher training is recommended
