The course will cover:

• Health & Safety at Work Act Sections 2, 7, and 8
• The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR)
• Relevant legislation: PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, WAH Regs, and HSG250
• Emergency procedures and PPE requirements
• Company-specific or generic permit systems

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

• Identify when a permit to work is required
• Understand and apply company or third-party permit procedures
• Produce a compliant risk assessment and method statement
• Write, issue, and cancel a permit to work
• Deliver a confident and clear start work briefing (toolbox talk)
• Recognise when it is inappropriate to issue a permit
• Monitor and extend permits safely, understanding the distinction between monitoring and supervising

Ideal for:

• Supervisors, team leaders, and managers responsible for issuing permits to work
• Individuals designated as the Authorised Person for work under permit systems
• Anyone involved in implementing or monitoring safe systems of work

• No formal prerequisites
• Candidates should have experience or a developing role in site supervision, safety, or work authorisation

Successful candidates will be registered on EUSR as an Authorised Person for Permit Writing valid for 3 years.
