Participants will cover:

• Health and safety legislation (HASWA, PUWER, HSG47, HSG150)
• Equipment checks: compressor, oiler, pipework, whip checks, cradle, CAT & Genny
• Site setup and hazard awareness
• PPE and emergency procedures
• Accurate operation of thrust bore and tracing aborted moling paths

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

• Identify when and where impact moling is suitable
• Carry out pre-use checks on equipment and compressor
• Plan routes safely using CAT & Genny
• Accurately guide mole within ±300mm of the target
• Lubricate and maintain moling equipment
• Perform all tasks safely and hygienically, especially in water utility environments

This course is ideal for:

• Utility operatives working on water, gas, or telecom installations
• Engineers and groundworkers involved in trenchless technology methods
• Operatives responsible for installing underground services using impact moling equipment

No formal prerequisites required.

Candidates must bring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:

• Moling gloves and wellington boots
• Flame-retardant workwear
• Hard hat, ear protection, eye protection

Launch and receive pits must be pre-excavated on customer sites, with a minimum 5m distance between them if training is conducted offsite.

1 Day

• Knowledge Check: Theory assessment via question paper
• Practical Assessment: Includes full equipment setup, operation of the impact mole, and trace of mole path using cable avoidance tools

Successful candidates will be registered with EUSR for Impact Moling. Certification is valid for 3 years
