The Utilities Network Construction Jointing Processes family of training courses consist of Endorsed Training Programmes covering activities relating to network construction jointing processes used within the utilities sector.
EUSR Electrofusion
This practical training course is designed for individuals working in the utilities sector, particularly those involved in the installation and maintenance of water, gas, and wastewater pipelines.
It covers two key pipe jointing techniques used with polyethylene (PE) pipework:
- Electrofusion: A technique that uses fittings with built-in electric heating elements to fuse pipes together. Learners will gain the skills needed to carry out safe and compliant electrofusion welds, with a focus on equipment setup, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
Who is it for
The course is designed for operatives and engineers involved in the construction and maintenance of gas, water, and utility pipelines using PE pipework. It is suitable for both new entrants and those requiring re-certification.
Entry Requirements
- Learners must have a basic understanding of site safety
- Suitable PPE must be worn during practical sessions
Course Content
The course covers:
- Understanding the key elements for creating successful Butt Fusion joints
- Setting up and operating Butt Fusion equipment safely and correctly
- Correctly aligning and introducing PE pipe into the machine to avoid joint faults
- Practical use of various types of Butt Fusion machines
- Performing quality assurance checks to ensure completed joints are suitable for carrying water
- Carrying out the jointing process in line with health and safety regulations

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate confidence and competence using Butt Fusion equipment
- Follow safe systems of work and apply quality control practices
- Meet the standard required for EUSR registration

Successful candidates will be registered on EUSR, valid for 3 years from date of training.
