City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces 6160-03
This 3-day course is designed for personnel who are required to enter and work in high-risk confined spaces, where breathing apparatus and robust emergency procedures are essential. It provides a strong blend of theory and practical skills, in line with the latest industry regulations and best practices.
Delegates will gain a clear understanding of how to safely manage, supervise, and carry out work in confined spaces where conditions are hazardous and may quickly deteriorate.
Course Content
The course includes:
- Confined Space Regulations & associated legislation
- Risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work
- Permits to Work and documentation requirements
- Roles and responsibilities of entrants, supervisors, and standby personnel
- Atmospheric testing, gas monitoring, and atmospheric deterioration
- Access equipment and communications
- Emergency procedures and equipment
- Practical use of self contained breathing apparatus
- Full entry/rescue procedures including use of retrieval systems
- Practical scenarios in our simulated confined space training area
A portion of the course is dedicated to reviewing documentation such as permits and risk assessments to reinforce understanding of operational procedures.

Assessment
Delegates will be assessed through:
- A written test to confirm theoretical understanding
- A practical assessment simulating high risk confined space entry and emergency procedures using full breathing apparatus
Entry Requirements
- A good understanding of spoken and written English is essential
- All delegates must be clean shaven to ensure an effective seal when wearing breathing apparatus
- Delegates must complete a Health & Fitness Statement prior to starting the course, confirming they are medically fit to participate
- A valid form of photographic ID (e.g., driving licence or passport) is required.
PPE Requirements
Candidates must bring the following:
- Safety boots or wellies
- Gloves
- Hard hat
- Overalls
Please note: all candidates must be clean shaven.
Certification
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive a City & Guilds 6160-03 High Risk Confined Space certificate, valid for 3 years.
